(RE)installing the HP ProBook 650 G5 i7

Microsoft uses your Microsoft e-mail account (first.last@hotlook.com) to create a user under C:\Users (first), but without a capital. Grrr!!!

• create a 2nd admin user: the GUI requires too much information (e.g. 3 security questions), so do it using an elevated command prompt:
  • net user 2ndadmin “2ndadmin” /add
  • net localgroup administrators “2ndadmin” /add
• log off
• log in as the 2nd admin user
• command prompt (elevated): rename c:\users\stijn Stijn [be patient, can sometimes take some time - on Lemmens, it was immediate]
• log off as the 2nd user
• sign in with your original account
• delete the 2nd admin user (simply with the metro style settings panel Accounts > Family & other users)

ATTENTION: I wouldn't change the name, only the capitalization, since Windows is case insensitive!

On september 25th, so two months after the installation, I notice stijn > Desktop in the *Immersive Explorer* .

You can change it in netplwiz (the Advanced User Accounts Control Panel): so open this control panel item, select the name you want to change and click on the Properties button.

Now you get the properties of the selected user account: you can change User name, Full name & Description.

Variable %USERPROFILE%

In PowerShell, you'll notice that still the name with a lowercase letter is shown.

• change the ProfileImagePath expandable string value
• restart

03) Resize disks

Resize resulted in an error indicating there was a disk issue that needed to be resolved before I could resize the disk partitions.

dism hangs at 62.3 percent

► I had to enable the Background Intelligent Transfer Service, then it worked fine!

04) AquaSnap

I kept the default settings, I only de-activated the !AquaGlass setting, which makes the window you move with the mouse transparent.

      • if Dutch (Belgium) - Belgin (Period) is missing - I'm 100% sure I selected it during installation, but instead it showed English (United States) - Belgian (Period) - then return to Time & Language > Language & Region, click on ··· next to Dutch (Belgium) and choose ··· Language options.
      • There, under Keyboards, click on the Add a keyboard button and choose Belgian (Period) AZERTY
    • Input language hot keys link:
      • in the To turn off Caps Lock section, choose the Press the SHIFT key option
      • Hot keys for input languages: click every action, then click on the Change Key Sequence… button and choose Not Assigned for both 'Switch Input Language' and 'Switch Keyboard Layout'
      • WARNING: even with the key sequences disabled, it remains possible to switch between the preferred languages by pressing + spacebar - you could overcome this by adding an AZERTY keyboard to English (United States) - but I don't do this
• Time & Language > Language and region
  • Related settings > Administrative language settings
    • Copy settings…
      • Current user :
        • Display language: English (United States)
        • Input language: Dutch (Belgium) - Belgian (Period)
        • Format: Dutch (Belgium)
        • Location: Belgium
      • If the values for the current user are as mentioned above, then check the Welcome screen and system accounts and the New user accounts checkbox.

07) Hide Language Bar

This requires two steps. Both are required to hide the language bar under all circumstances!

Step 1: Turn Input Indicator system icon off

Step 2: Language Bar: Hidden

Voor inkomende verbindingen via Remote Desktop, zet volgende optie aan:

• Settings > System > Remote Desktop: enable Remote Desktop

17) VPN in Control Center

• Zolang je geen VPN-verbindingen hebt, is VPN ook helemaal niet beschikbaar in het Control Center.
• Zodra je de phonebook.pbk hebt gekopieerd (en na uit- en inloggen) komt het VPN-icoon er automatisch bij.
• Na een eerste connectie waren de VPN-verbindingen een tijdje niet zichtbaar in het Control Center, ze stonden er wel, maar je zag ze niet, als je op een positie klikte, zag je evenwel de checkbox 'Connect automatically' en de knop 'Connect'.

31) Device Manager: exclamation mark

In de Device Manager stond een uitroepteken bij Firmware > HP R72 System Firmware.

Dat merk je niet meteen, maar bij het booten wordt helemaal in het begin het volgende getoond: "Please wait while we install a system update"

Er gebeurt echter niets, en er wordt gereboot - uitroepteken blijft staan.
