Hide Bing

In Microsoft Edge

In the Registry Editor:
  • go to or create key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge
  • create a new DWORD (32-bit):
    • Value name: HubsSidebarEnabled
    • Value data: 0
  • according to articles on the internet, you should reload policies (in Edge, go to edge://policy), I never had to - I just restarted Edge, and the Bing Discover button was gone

< 03/05/2023
  • in the 'modern' Settings, choose Privacy & security
  • then click on Search permissions
  • in the Cloud content search section, disable both:
    • Microsoft account
    • Work or School account

  • go to registry key HCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search
  • create DWORD BingSearchEnabled with value 0
    • this results in no Chat Bing AI results
    • but also no web results (but who cares)
  • (this change doesn't require you to restart your pc)
or
  • create registry key HCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
  • create DWORD DisableSearchBoxSuggestions with value 1
  • restart your pc (or Explorer)
    • this results in no Chat Bing AI results
    • but also no web results (but who cares)
