Block access to a website

It's not always possible to block sites through the hosts file. How to proceed then?

Through the Windows Defender Firewall

Note: if you have a pc with the below Firewall rule, you can ex-/import the rule, avoiding having to type over 10 or more IP addresses.
  • Switch to the Advanced settings
  • Add a new Outbound Rule
  • Rule Type: Custom
  • Program: All programs
  • Protocol and Ports: <default>
  • Scope: Which remote IP addresses does this rule apply to? These addresses: w.x.y.z & a.b.c.d (e.g. be aware that msn.com & www.msn.com have separate ip addresses!!!)
  • Action: Block the connection
  • Profile: leave all 3 check boxes selected
  • Name: Block intrusive websites

The messages that appear do not always suggest that the site is blocked:
  • Opera: Your Internet access is blocked - Try: … Checking firewall and … ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED
  • Brave: Your Internet access is blocked - Try: … Checking firewall and … ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED
  • Firefox: Problem loading page / Unable to connect … firewall …
  • IE: Can't reach this page - More information > Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND
  • Chrome: Your Internet access is blocked - Try: … Checking firewall and … ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED
  • Edge: Hmmm… can't reach this page - Details … Error Code: INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND
