People
People is a Microsoft Windows app, that, in previous versions, could be opened from the start menu, but at a certain point in time, Microsoft decided that you could only open it from the
Calendar or
Mail app.
After I changed the
language of
Apps & websites from English to Dutch (to have a 'readable' birthday date format), I noticed that the People/Personen tile in my start menu missed an icon picture and when I hovered over it, the name
ms-resource:AppListName appeared - the latter was apparently already the case in English as well.
You can however restore the app/tile, as described here:
https://www.tenforums.com/software-apps/173733-ms-people-app-appearing-ms-resource-applistname-start-menu-2.html.
The above description makes use of a .vbs script, so that with one click you get a shortcut/tile with the correct icon. However the
.ico file is only downloadable if you create an account on tenforums.com, and that's no longer possible. So, I proceeded as follows:
- I downloaded the Fluent Design icon pack from https://www.dropbox.com/s/dff0ohbgqsdl3qf/Fluent%20Design.zip?dl=0
- then I created the following shortcut :
- rightclick > New > Shortcut
- Type the location of the item: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe ms-people: (including the colon!) and click on Next²
- Type a name for this shortcut: People / Personen and click on Finish
- now rightclick the newly created shortcut and choose Properties
- click on the Change Icon... button
- browse to the location where you saved the icons and choose the General\People2.ico
- 2 x OK
- rightclick > Pin to Start
¹Initially, I copied the icon from here: "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\Microsoft.People_10.1909.12456.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\Assets\PeopleAppList.targetsize-256.png", then resized it to 260x260 using Paint.net, and finally created a (fav)icon using https://realfavicongenerator.net/
²This is the protocol (see 'Choose default apps by protocol') - You can also use the !AppUserModelId: C:\Windows\explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\Microsoft.People_8wekyb3d8bbwe!x4c7a3b7dy2188y46d4ya362y19ac5a5805e5x - The AppUserModelId can be retrieved from the Task Manager: go to the Details tab, add the Command line column - you can copy the Command line by right-clicking the name of the executable and choosing 'Properties' - then select the text next to Location and copy!
